this graphic represents an example of a cycle that can keep someone depressed perpetually….
the point of psychotherapy is to break cycles like this.
The intervention can be at any point in the cycle
- Any of the (irrational) beliefs can be challenged (cognitive therapy)
- Any of the contributing behaviors can be adjusted and changed (behavioral modification therapy)
- the emotional processes can be modified (psychodynamic and insight-oriented psychotherapy.)
I’ll try to get more into depth on these at some point in the future when I feel less powerless. Right now though I’m just going to do nothing, although I do feel guilty about it.
Enjoy the weekend!!
